Ever wanted to re-enact historic British battles? Well, on the chess board at least? The "Medieval English" Chess Set made from ground stone will allow you to do exactly this. Lead your army against the enemy at the far end of the board!

The chess pieces are made from ground stone (marble powder) and are hand-painted. Both the kings measure an imposing 112mm and weighing over 100g each! Not bad for a start. But the other pieces need not be overlooked and even the pawns still weigh over 20g. All figures have felts at their bases to protect the board from scratches. Speaking of the board, it measures 56cm and has mahogany and sycamore inlays. The whole set weighs approximately 3.7kg.

In traditional Staunton design chess sets, all attention is normally given to the knight. It's a nice one here too but the other pieces will draw a lot of attention too. And thanks to the pieces being different for both sides, your excitement can be multiplied by 2.

Special attention should be given to the "white" pawns with their shields protecting themselves from the arrows of the enemy. Take a close look at the "black" side's pawns: They are archers. Although shooting arrows isn't allowed at chess, it's nevertheless a nice touch. Not only this but the designer did a great job as the archers were modelled correctly, in that their sides point forward with their right foot standing far behind - ready for shooting off their arrows. Just in case you always wanted to have a "real" bishop instead of a figure with a mitre in it, you get them. For black at least as the white bishops are monks instead.

This chess set will give years of enjoyment and if you are not a chess player it will be an exquisite piece of decoration in your living room. If you have younger children at home you can be sure they will like those pieces too; ideal to get them interested in this fascinating game!
