Just as the name suggests, this design is indeed contemporary. Elegance is provided to this stunning set by its sleek and simple lines with a touch of abstractness. Despite displaying some abstract elements, it still reveals the traditional Staunton character and each piece is easily identified. What a perfect synthesis of classical Staunton design with contemporary design!

Quality is found throughout this sets characteristics. All pieces are handmade and polished to a very high sheen by hand. High quality boxwood is used for the white pieces great looking Sheesham for the black ones. For added stability and balance, all pieces are doubly-weighted.

Now to some numbers: The king height's measures 3.5" (90mm) and you find a weight of approximately 40g. The king's pedestal has a diameter of just over 1" which makes the set suitable for boards with a 1.4" square size or bigger (40mm and bigger). The pawns - being the lightest figures on the board - weigh around 14g each.

If you look for a wonderful chess set with a more unusual design but without going too fancy, the Contemporary fits the bill. It will also blend in well into any modern living space and is perfectly suited as a decorative piece of artwork to put on display. And of course, this set is great to play with too.
